Bürgertest · Schweiz
Switzerland does not have one naturalisation test — it has one per canton. Bürgertest asks where you are applying, then prepares you for the rules, the exam format and the interview that actually apply to you.
Why Bürgertest?
Aargau sets a published multiple-choice test. Bern examines in writing. Lucerne decides in a personal interview. The fee, the pass mark and the language change at the cantonal border — so the app starts by asking where you live.
Pick your canton in onboarding and the whole app adjusts — exam format, fee, required language level, retake rules and the question pool you are examined on.
The clock runs, feedback comes only at the end, and the test submits itself when time is up — scored against the pass mark your canton uses.
Every question carries an explanation — shown whether you got it right or wrong. The official PDFs give you a checkmark and nothing else.
The material is taught, not listed. Each lesson closes with the exact questions it covers, so reading turns straight into answering.
In many communes the decision is made in a conversation, not on paper. All 29 questions you may be asked, what a strong answer covers, and space to keep your own.
Answer an interview question by speaking. The app listens in the language of your canton’s interview and shows you what you actually said.
Study in English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish — while the app keeps the exam terms in the language your canton examines you in.
Results break down by topic and the home screen counts down to your exam date, putting your weakest topics first.
No subscription, no renewal, nothing to cancel. You are preparing for one exam, not signing up for a service.
The material
72 questions cover the federal core that every canton draws on. A cantonal pack adds the questions that are specific to where you apply.
How Switzerland is governed — and why the people have so much say.
From the founding pact to neutrality, the federal state and the modern confederation.
Cantons, rivers, mountain ranges and the four national languages.
Fundamental rights, the courts, and the limits the constitution puts on power.
AHV, the three pillars, health insurance and how the safety net is funded.
Militia system, associations, schooling, waste rules — the civic habits you are expected to know.
The first cantonal pack: 10 questions on Aargau’s institutions, geography and procedure. More cantons follow.
All 26 cantons
Bürgertest carries a fact sheet for every canton — and where a canton has not published its procedure, it says so instead of inventing one.
Multiple choice, written exam, personal interview, or a mix — documented per canton.
What the test costs and the score you need — listed only where the canton publishes it.
German, French or Italian, with the spoken and written levels your canton requires.
How long you wait after a fail, and how many attempts you get.
Every canton links to its official page. Aargau ships a question pack today; further cantonal packs are included in the full version as they are added.
The interview
Who sits on your municipal council? Which communes border yours? Where do you read what is being decided locally? 29 questions across four areas, with what a strong answer covers.
Your commune, its council, its neighbours, and how you get around it.
Schooling, taxes, insurance — the paperwork of living here.
Customs, traditions and how you found your place in them.
Your job, your qualifications, and the economy around your commune.
“This is a conversation, not a test — there is no single right answer. For each question you get what actually matters. The ones with a location pin you need to research yourself.”

Written from primary sources
Each question names where it comes from — an article of the Federal Constitution, admin.ch, the Federal Statistical Office, or a cantonal authority. Nothing is copied from an official question catalogue.
Knowing that C is correct does not get you through an interview. Every question comes with the reasoning behind the answer, shown whether you were right or wrong.
Where a canton has not published its exam format, fee or pass mark, the app says “not documented” and links the official page. An exam-prep app that invents rules is worse than one that admits a gap.
