Let's be honest: Thai is not the easiest language to pick up. The script looks beautiful but completely foreign. There are 44 consonants, 32 vowel forms, 5 tones, and a writing system that doesn't use spaces between words. If that sounds intimidating — we get it. We felt the same way.

That's why we built Sawasdee — a Thai learning app that breaks everything down into small, manageable steps and makes the whole journey feel more like a game than a textbook.

Start with the building blocks

Most Thai courses jump straight into phrases. "Hello" is sawasdee, "thank you" is khob khun — great, but you still can't read a single word on a menu. We took a different approach: start with the alphabet.

Sawasdee teaches you Thai consonants and vowels one at a time, through structured chapters. Each chapter introduces a handful of new characters, then tests your recognition with quizzes, matching games, and writing exercises. By the time you move on, those characters feel familiar — not scary.

Spaced repetition does the heavy lifting

The secret sauce behind Sawasdee is spaced repetition. It's a learning technique where you review material at increasing intervals — just as you're about to forget it. The app tracks which characters you've mastered and which ones need more practice, so your study time is always focused where it matters most.

This means 10 minutes a day with Sawasdee is surprisingly effective. You're not just going through the motions — you're building real, lasting memory.

From consonants to conversations

Sawasdee doesn't stop at the alphabet. As you progress, you'll work through vocabulary, tone rules, and reading practice. The goal is to take you from "what is this squiggle?" all the way to reading Thai signs, menus, and messages — step by step.

We also included XP, levels, and streaks to keep things fun. There's something deeply satisfying about maintaining a learning streak, and it's a gentle nudge to keep coming back even on days when you're not feeling motivated.
